Northern Trust, one of the largest asset custodians on the planet, is teaming up with crypto data firm Lukka to overhaul how its institutional clients track and report digital asset holdings. The partnership integrates Lukka’s data normalization platform directly into Northern Trust’s servicing stack, giving clients a single pane of glass across a sprawling universe of blockchains, exchanges, and custodians.
For a firm sitting on $20 trillion in assets under custody as of June 30, 2026, the move is less about dipping a toe into crypto and more about building the plumbing that makes institutional-scale digital asset management actually work.
Lukka’s platform ingests raw transaction data from custodians, OTC desks, digital wallets, and both centralized and decentralized exchanges, then standardizes it into audit-ready reporting. The coverage is broad: over 100 blockchain networks and more than 400 exchange sources feed into the system.
Lukka, founded in 2014, has built its business specifically around solving that problem. The company operates under AICPA’s SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II frameworks, which are the same audit and controls standards that traditional financial service providers use.
Justin Chapman, Northern Trust’s group head of Strategic Partnerships for Digital and Financial Markets, framed the partnership around client demand.
“Clients are increasingly looking for a streamlined approach to managing their digital asset exposures.”
Kiet Tran, Lukka’s CEO, positioned the platform as purpose-built for the standards conventional finance demands, delivering “audit-ready” data that lets institutions manage digital holdings alongside their traditional portfolios.
