The HKMA is a highly credible and established financial institution with a strong focus on blockchain technology and CBDC initiatives. Its engagement with the Canton Network and active projects like the mBridge demonstrate significant real-world impact and commitment to innovation in the financial sector. However, the lack of comprehensive documentation and open-source resources could be improved to enhance transparency and community engagement.

HKMA Canton-relevant footprint runs along two parallel tracks. First, Project Ensemble (launched March 2024, sandbox live August 2024) is HKMA flagship wholesale-CBDC and tokenization initiative, exploring interbank settlement of tokenized real-world assets across four themes: fixed income and investment funds, liquidity management, green and sustainable finance, and trade and supply chain finance. Initial sandbox participants include Bank of China (Hong Kong), HSBC, Hang Seng Bank, Standard Chartered, Ant Digital, HashKey, and Microsoft. Second, Hong Kong FMI Services Limited (HKFMI), part of the HKMA-linked financial market infrastructure ecosystem, joined the Global Synchronizer Foundation (GSF) on 19 March 2025 alongside Goldman Sachs and Moody Ratings.
